This is a system of spectroscopic imagers for detailed studies of light emissions in
the ionosphere above Northern Sweden.
The ALIS team
is a part of the Solar Terrestrial Physics research group at IRF. Studies of the
auroral light tells us a lot about what is going on in near Earth space.
We combine measurements from ground-based instruments with measurements from satellites.

our different satellite projects.
PROMICS-3 is an instrument on the Russian
satellites Interball-1 (launched 95-08-02) and Interball-2 (launched 96-08-29).
It measured positive ions in the energy range from a few eV to 70 keV and
electrons between 0.3 and 35 keV. It is a cooperative effort between IRF-Kiruna,
FMI in Helsinki and IKI in Moscow. I am PI of PROMICS-3. Click here for the PROMICS-3 home page
I am Co-I of the particle instrument
RAPID on Cluster.

My book
"Norrsken-budbärare från rymden" (Aurora, messenger from space) was published in
Swedish in May of 1998. The book is intended for the interested public and the
level is from junior high (högstadiet) and up. It gives an introduction to the
physics of the aurora and the magnetosphere, history of auroral research,
methods of space research and some folklore and can be bought from book stores
or the reception at IRF-Kiruna .
I am a member of the Polar Research Committee of the Swedish Science Council,
the Scientific Advisory Committee of Abisko Scientific Research Station,
and Program Board (Programstyre) for Space Research of the Norwegian Research Council.
